A Primer on Coal: Energy and Environment

PACS Course Number 3010

9 AM to 5 PM

The course leader is Dr. Maurice Deul, Professor of Geology & Planetary Science at the University of Pittsburgh. He is recognized as a world-class expert. He has conducted and managed research on fuels — coal, uranium, carbonaceous shales and natural gas. He conducted original research on the origin of uranium in coal and in the Chattanooga shale, trace and minor elements in coal, the mineralogy and genesis of coal, coal chemistries, sulfur reduction in steam coals, acid mine water abatement and methane control during mining. Dr. Deul pioneered in the development of automated microscopy, the recovery and utilization of coalbed methane and in novel methods of mined land reclamation. He has been chairman of the Coal Group of the Geological Society of America, chairman of the Coal Technology Group of the ACS and Chairman of the Society of Mining Engineers.

The purpose of this one-day course is to provide the participant a broad base of knowledge about coal. If coal is important to your firm, this course is for you. The course will, as far as possible, be tailored to the special interests that you express on the registration form. A course outline is below.

This one-day course is held twice a year close to Pittsburgh International Airport; also it is scheduled monthly in major cities. Call for upcoming dates. This course can be provided at the client’s time and place. The course includes a course notebook, notes, and refreshments. PACS provides other courses on activated carbon and allied topics.

PACS courses related to activated carbon are titled:

Course Registration is available. You may also register through an associated conference registration. Send it with a payment of $1250 to secure your course attendance. Hotel information and a map will be sent to confirm your registration. Please list your special interest(s) on the registration form. Enrollment is limited to assure your maximum course benefits. On-site PACS courses are available (most PACS courses can be provided at your time and place). Telephone PACS at 1.724.457.6576 if you need further information. PACS also provides laboratory testing and consulting services.
