This 3-day course covers packed and capillary column gas chromatography (GC). It is designed for chemists, technicians and others who have minimum experience (0-3 years) with gas chromatography, or want to expand their knowledge base, or those interested in learning GC procedures. This course emphasizes: problem solving, practical day-to-day operation tips, minimum of theory, column and phase selection, detectors, applications, method development, quality control, and troubleshooting. All major GC detectors will be covered, the third day is devoted to the mass spectrometer detector and basic interpretation of data. PACS has four courses devoted to mass spectrometry. Also, GC applications will be discussed which are of interest to participants. Please note your experience and GC applications on the registration form. The course outline is below.
The instructor has well over thirty years of practical experiences using packed and capillary GC in many different applications. Dr. Nowicki's GC experiences include: environmental sciences, clinical, toxicology, forensics, legal and illegal drugs, natural products, metabolism, food sciences, R&D, industrial problem solving, biotechnology, and others. Dr. Nowicki has real-world experiences with all detectors discussed in this course, please see section IV below. This course emphasizes practical aspects of GC and lightly covers theory. The basics of GC method development and quality control and assurance for defensible GC analysis is covered.
