PACS has recruited Dr. Peyman Givi to provide a two-day course titled "Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Simulations for Industrial Problem Solving". CFD and simulation methods have the power to help solve many industrial problems, but many are not using these available methods. This two-day course offers tools to solve problems for the activated carbon industry and other commercial products and services. This course has no prerequisites. It is taught with a minimal math treatment. This is a practical course which will provide quick application for your specific problems. Please let us know about your specific application on the registration form. Dr. Givi will address your problem during the course or during lunch/breaks. Below is information about the course instructor and the course content.
The course leader is Peyman Givi, Ph.D., the William Kepler Whiteford Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Computational Transport Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh. Previously he held the position of Distinguished Professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Givi has also worked as a Research Scientist at Flow Industries, Inc. in Seattle and has had frequent visiting appointments at the NASA Langley Research Center and the NASA Glenn Research Center. Dr. Givi is a member of the editorial boards of Computers & Fluids and is an Associate Editor of AIAA Journal. His current research is sponsored by NASA, DoD, DOE, NSF and ACS/PRF. For further details please visit his web site: http://www.engr.pitt.edu/givi/
This course provides an introduction to some of the numerical/computational methods for solving problems in fluid dynamics and the general transport phenomena. Fields described by linear and non-linear ordinary and partial differential equations (elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic) will be considered by means of various examples from fluid dynamics, heat & mass transfer, and combustion. Numerical discretization techniques based on finite difference methods will be the subject of main discussions. However, an introduction will be presented of other techniques such as finite element, spectral, spectral-element, Lagrangian, and vortex methods. This course is suitable for industry engineers in all branches of engineering.
